Faking It

Considering we were all ill most of the Fall, I'm happy to report we've been reasonably healthy this winter. Last time I took Ethan in to the doctor to check out a sore throat situation, I had her check Elliot too, even though I thought he was faking it to try and steal his big brother's attention. Nope. All three of us had strep throats and double ear infections.

Last night Ethan started coughing and today I kept him home, gave him medicine and told him to rest. Elliot of course starts coughing and complaining of a sore throat. So, I dutifully gave him a little medicine and told him to rest.

At the request of the sickies, we made chicken noodle soup for breakfast. I handed out the children's vitamins, with which I'm not overly consistent--partly due to my own inconsistent nature, and partly due to the complaints and refusals by Elliot. Today, however, I pulled out the vitamins and said we all need to take them to get better. Elliot's response:

No mom, I think I'm just faking.

Nice. At least he's honest.

Whenever my kids want to stay home from school and I don't think they REALLY need to, I always tell them, "Okay, so if you are sick enough to stay home, then I want you to stay in your bed all day and rest. You won't be able to play any today. Just sleep."

That normally shakes the faking right out of them... maybe I should pull the vitamins out too!!
